Give Hope and Hold 'Em Gala - Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
Q: When do I need to buy tickets?
A: Tickets must be purchased in advance. By purchasing ahead of time, you guarantee yourself a spot and you help us gauge how many people to plan for.
Q: What is the proper attire for the Event?
A: Semi-Formal or Cocktail Attire
Q: What do I need to bring to the gala?
A: Other than yourself, you will probably want cash or a checkbook with you. There is an ATM on the premisis. Potential uses for cash include the full bar (We provide complimentary wine the entire night, as well as a cash-only full bar), re-buys into the poker tournament if you’re eliminated, or auction purchases.
Q: What if I go all in on my first hand and lose?
A: During the first hour of the tournament, you will be permitted to re-buy back into the tounament.
Q: What do I get if I win the poker tournament?
A: While we work on getting prizes donated up until the day of the event, its never known for sure until the night of the event. The winner will have their choice of several prizes, one of which is a $2000 cruise gift certificate to be used on any cruise line, any date, to any destination with our generous donor/travel agent Teresa Knox of Cruise Holidays. Most importantly of course, is that you will have the honor of being crowned ‘Give Hope Foundation’s Poker Champion for 2011′! Each of the top 10 finishers will recieve prizes.
Q: Can I walk up and purchase a ticket at the event without having pre-purchased a ticket?
A: We strongly encourage you to purchase tickets well in advance either through the website or by contacting us directly. This is both for your benefit, because our poker tournament has sold out in several times in the past, and also for our benefit so that we can plan on how many guests we will have. We have the ability to take walk-up poker players, but only in the unlikely event that we aren’t already sold out of the 200 seats available. We can take some additional Gala guests but only up to a certain amount, as we will only have food enough to feed a pre-determined amount of guests. Again, the best way for both you and us is to purchase them well in advance, and we thank you for working with us on this.
Q: What are some of the items up for bid in the Silent Auction?
A: We don't divide up what's used for a Silent Auction, raffle, or poker prizes until a couple of days before the event, but you can take a look at the list we'll pull from this list:
Give Hope and Hold 'Em Gala 2011 Prize List
Q: What’s in the Live Auction?
A: We usually have a few really nice items in the live auction. The two most exciting items up for auction are the final seat at the final table, and a vacation. We used to live auction off the honor of being the Title Sponsor for Give Hope Foundation for the following year, but we're going to move that item to the silent auction this year, so be on the lookout for that if you're interested in this honor.
Q: What is in the Gift Bag?
A: We have free gym memberships, Event T-shirts, and other great free stuff for you, some of which is provided by our generous sponsors, so be sure to grab one on your way out!
Q: How old do you have to be to participate in the poker tournament?
A: We don’t have a set age, but please keep in mind that while our Event benefits kids, this is an adult-oriented Event, and of course an adult oriented game. We would just ask parents to use their own judgement and only enter a maturity-appropriate player.
Q: Do I have to know how to play poker to enter the tournament?
A: Of course not! The event is about everyone having a great time, and contributing to a great cause in a unique way. In fact, a friend of ours had never played poker previous to our first event, and made it all the way to the final table!
Q: What if I can’t make that date, but I still want to help?
A: A great way to help is to donate online, volunteer, or become a sponsor! Just visit our About Us page and scroll down to "How You Can Help" for more details! In addition, we always need help spreading the word about the event and gathering prizes and auction items.
